HAPPY EARTH DAY TO YOU!
The time has come to delight in the fact that we are part of this grand unfolding and unfinished revelation, to take our place as members of the extended family of life on Earth.
Dear Earthlings,
As you probably know, Earth Day is Scoop’s most favorite holy day! (With April Fools’ Day a close second.) To celebrate, please join us in singing Scoop’s official Earth Day song, set to the tune of Happy Birthday.
♪♪♪ Happy Earthday to you! Happy Earthday to you! Happy Earthday every-body — (keep holding the note) — regardless of kingdom, phyla, class, order, family, genus or species; regardless of color of skin, fur, feathers, scales, leaves or bark — (Resume singing) — Happy Earthday to you! ♪♪♪
We’re also sharing some clips from the archives. We hope these pieces will energize your Earth Day activities, and inspire joy and hopefulness as you work to heal and protect our home planet.
To start off, here’s a classic Scoop Earth Day radio script. You may have heard him read this or something similar on the air at some point over the years:
Yes friends, the earth gave birth to all of us: the microbes and the macrobes, the ferns, frogs, fish, finches, four-leggeds, you and me and we are all together. And Earth Day is everybody’s Mother’s Day The earth continues to suckle us all, with air and water, food and shelter. And even though we are spinning through space at many thousands of miles an hour, we don’t even have to hold on — because the earth is holding on to us with her strong arms of gravity. She is the ground of our being, our rock of ages…read more
On this Earth Day, we’d also like to share Life Lines, an Inquiring Mind article exploring how insights from both our meditation practice and the evolutionary sciences can energize our work to heal the planet. It was written over two decades ago but remains as relevant now as ever.
The sciences of evolution have gifted us with the insight that a unitary process is taking place here on Earth, and that each of us is like a cell in a single living being. All forms of Life are made of the same materials and all have the same unique quality we recognize as “alive.”…read more
Lastly, at some point during your Earth Day celebration or during your every day Earth celebration, we hope you’ll join us and take off your shoes and dance on the ground, touching your Mother skin to skin. Or just lay down flat (please ignore your inner cynic), and give your Mama a great big hug. As always, she will kiss you and forgive you, and welcome you home.
All praises to the Earth. Long may she spin!
And of course, keep making some news of your own!
The real shift of awareness comes when you begin to sense the fact – substantiated by chemistry and evolutionary sciences – that you are not so much on the earth as you are of the earth. If you believe in the theory of evolution, then you must acknowledge that you are literally emerged from the earth and its seas, the source to which all life has been traced.
